THE PERSON WHO DISCOVERED THE CELL

Robert Hooke discovered the cell in 1665 under a basic microscope in a cork tissue. He was a scientist, architect astronomer, philosopher, and also the first person to first person to build a Gregorian reflecting telescope. Robert Hooke was educated at Oxford and spent his career at the Royal Society and Gresham College. He was one of the greatest experimental scientists of the 17th century. While observing cork through his microscope, Hooke saw tiny boxlike cavities, which he illustrated and described as cells. He had discovered plant cells! Hooke's discovery led to the understanding of cells as the smallest units of life—the foundation of cell theory
